Bempology Summer 2010

See what I did here? Butchered an iconic film print! Relive beach days with Bempology Summer 2010.  Usually just put playlists together at Christmas as a year end roundup, but compiled this one in May to kick off the summer and send around to a few friends.  Since it’s a longer list of songs it’s compressed into two zipped files, but just drag all of em into one Itunes playlist and they’ll organize accordingly.  Start things off with CSLCX ‘Futuretapes’, my favorite song of the summer and possibly of the year.  Uses a repeating structure to cement the main hook into your brain for about 2 minutes and then the female vocal comes in like some kind of sexed-up hipster angel.  Other standouts include Free Energy’s prototypical cook-out jam “Bang Pop” (no need for highbrow here, just enjoy it), Radio Department “Heaven on Fire” (the kind of production and beat that rap producers would kill for, allowing Hood Internet to use it in the best mash-up of the year), Foster the People ‘Pumped Up Kicks’ (further proof that if you nail a catchy whistle-based hook into your song, you’ll go places) First Rate People ‘Girls Night’ (like some kind of middle school slumber party that’s transformed into a 2 minute pop song – lofty, short, and just the right vibe), and Gigamesh’s take on Classixx ‘I’ll Get You” (Do you like bass? You’ll start getting excited once you begin to recognize the children laughing and realize this song is playing – indie bloghouse of yesteryear).  Also, definitely give heavy rotation to Bearbot, some great mashup work with Lil Wayne in one of the best rap songs of the year.
